Alfred was killed on board Whitley Z9154 along with three others (one became POW) heading for a bombing raid on Essen, Germany when it was believed shot down over Holland flying from RAF Linton-on-Ouse, North Yorkshire

Bergen-op-Zoom War Cemetery, Holland

Alfred was re-buried after the war in Bergen-Op-Zoom from Huisduien. There is also a memorial on the organ inside the church
