First World War
Private
1st/6th Battalion Devonshire Regiment
1st Brecknockshire Territorials (South Wales Borderers)
Arrived first overseas at Aden with the Brecknockshire Territorials where it is likely he was involved in the march and withdrawal at the Battle of the Walled Garden at Lahej (Yemen). It seems likely that after this point possibly on the battalion's return to India that he switched regiments to the Devonshires. The 1st/6th Devonshires were then sent to Mesopotamia and were involved in the failed relief of Kut
