Killed in action in a famous battle between members of the 2nd Division including the 2nd Dorsetshires held out at the Deputy Commissioner's bungalow along Garrison Hill at Kohima in India under repeated attacks by a Japanese Division. It was ugly hand to hand fighting which began in April 1944 and continued into May 1944.

Kohima War Cemetery lies on the grounds of the old bungalow now gone during the fighting but the lines of the old tennis courts remain. There is a memorial to the 2nd Dorsetshires at Kohima. There is a memorial window for Geoffrey at St Mary Magdalene Church in Coventry showing St Joan of Arc.
