Killed in action on board Z1728 Wellington bomber which left RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire on a bombing run to Bremen in Germany. It was lost without trace.

One of the crew of the plane was discovered by the war graves investigation team buried at Vechta Russian POW Cemetery - Sgt John Bishop. The plane must have come down in the area around Bremen.
