Killed in a flying accident when his plane collided with another plane on a training formation flight above Yatesbury in Wiltshire. He was killed along with Flight Sergeant Charles Findlay of Motherwell, Lanarkshire in Scotland (a draughtsman before the war).

Discharged from AIF for commission into Royal Flying Corps March 1917. Wounded in August 1916 and in hospital in Stone, Staffordshire. His brother George is also remembered on his grave. They enlisted together, went together from Australia and served until his death in August 1916.
