Killed in action in the exploits around High Wood in support of the Northamptonshire Regiment when the 2nd KRRC were sent forward to meet a German advance - they held, with some forward and back, in the last event before withdrawing the Glosters who were relieving them failed to send any officers to the advanced position so 2nd Lieut Stokes and some of his men stayed but at this point were again attacked - Stokes was killed with many others. Albert was killed in one of these actions on that day around High Wood

Albert's body was never found after the war - it wasn't until 1927 (over 10 years since his death) that his body was discovered and identified - complete with effects found on his body - spoon, watch, medal. Albert was the only child of his parents. The news of their son's discovery must have been indescribable
